From: Peter Schmidt To: LCC1 Date: Thursday, October 24, 2002 3:31 AM Subject: LCC: the very thought turns my stomach begging your indulgence, Having learned my lesson the show news now gets front-loaded. LCC plays with Baboon on Halloween at the Curtain Club 2800 Main St. Dallas TX. www.curtainclub.com Baboon is releasing a new CD entitled "Something Good Is Going To Happen To You" and they're having one of those now ubiquitous CD release parties at the Curtain Club next Thursday, October 31st (Halloween to the layman). It's now not really the big deal that it used to be for a band from around town to release a CD. Anytime I actually bother to look through the club listings I see a couple of bands hosting their very own CD release parties and thankfully I never have to hear most of those CD's. What is a big deal this time is how fucking good the new Baboon CD is. To be honest I have only heard about half of it but it is a major step forward for the band if the second half of the CD is even half as good as what I heard it will be amazing. Much more than just the glorious noise we have come to expect from them. At any given point in local music history there have only been 3 or 4 bands that I thought were worth a shit and Baboon has been one of those bands for more than 10 years. 10 years! That they're still around after all this time is some kind of accomplishment I suppose. That they are now releasing the best work of their career is amazing and inspiring. Now I would be mentioning this show whether or not LCC was on the bill but as it turns out we are. Baboon have been good friends to LCC for a while now and I am prideful and honorable that they are letting us play with them at this show. Here are the details: Curtain Club/Liquid Lounge Thurday October 31st HALLOWEEN You'll be able to move freely between the two conjoined clubs. Tentative set times are as follows: Curtain Club Stage: Baboon 12:15 The Paperchase 11:15 LCC 10:15 The Ozzy Osmonds 9:30 Liquid Lounge Stage: Budapest One 11:40 The Faceless Werewolves 10:40 The Petty Thieves 9:50 Remember that tentative means that the shit can and probably will change. Just in case you are not familiar with all the bands I will personally vouch for the fine quality of all of them excepting the Ozzy Osmonds (who are an Ozzy tribute or so I've heard). Fuck it! I am gonna state for the record that the Ozzy Osmonds will kick your ass six ways to Sunday. The Petty Thieves are my roommates band and since I usually make myself scare while they are rehearsing I am actually looking forward to this their first ever club gig. And it's been far too long since I've seen The Paperchase. Since I don't make it out of the house too often this will be a great chance for me to see a lot of cool bands all at once. ---------------------------------------------- now that i got that stuff out of the way... two interesting links concerning LCC from this weeks Ft. Worth Weekly: first a nice show preview for the Halloween show. it contains a couple of factual errors and i'm not sure why they're writing about us instead of Baboon but what the hey, we'll take the compliments wherever we can get them. http://www.fwweekly.com/issues/2002-10-24/theshow.html Clark will be proud to have had his pizza site mentioned. ( http://www.thisonegoestoeleven.com/pizza.html ) stranger though is this item from their HearSay column. http://www.fwweekly.com/issues/2002-10-24/hearsay.html scroll down to the third paragraph and you'll see talk of a CD release show that LCC played in Ft. Worth last week to an audience replete with non-applauding "yuppies". problem is, as far as i can remember, none of this ever happened. i received several concerned emails from folks thinking that we were holding out on them, hiding news of a new LCC CD from them. to set the record straight: 1) LCC has not even started recording our next CD yet 2) LCC has never even played at the Aardvark 3) they're not called yuppies anymore, they're called web designers 4) i can't figure out what the fuck they're talking about anyways the whole thing was probably just a typo but i'm gonna look into the Weekly's drug policy just in case. are you guy's hiring? -------------------------- just saw P.T. Anderson's "Punch-Drunk Love". sucessfully avoided reading any reviews so i wasn't quite sure what to expect. it was actually a little weirder than i expected (and i was expecting it to be weird) and i'm still trying to decide where i stand on it. i'm almost willing to just say it sucked in order to avoid a painful reassesment of Adam Sandler. but when the dust clears i'm sure that i'll come down on the side of liking the movie if only because it so obviously pissed off a good number of the, um, yuppies in the audience. "Rules of Attraction" - enjoyed despite a lot of obvious flaws. "Igby Goes Down" - short review: the adults actors were good, the kids were dismal. Bill Pullman was more appealing in his (mostly non-speaking) 5 minutes of screen time than Ryan Phillippe could ever hope to be. and Ryan, are you gonna use that stupid accent in every movie you are in? that's what i thought. and with Claire Danes performance so goes another inappropriate crush. Kieran Culkin was actually the best of the younger actors but still weak in my opinion. he was exponentially better than Mcaulay though. how many more Culkins have we got? 2 more and it's mathematically possible to move into Deniro territory. typically I enjoy the Catcher rip-offs but this one was a disappointment. ----------------------- thanks to all who came out to the show at Muddy Waters a few weeks ago. it went much better than i expected. pleasant grove was amazing as usual. (bob - please don't tell your speed freak buddy about our shows if you are not gonna be there to babysit him. on second thought, just don't tell him about our shows.) anyways, it was nice to play somewhere other than the hell hole that is deep ellum. hopefully we'll have another show at Muddy's in late december. thanks richard. ---------------------- by the way, because i keeping changing operating systems and email programs i may have fucked up the mailing list and included some of my personal addresses in this list. you guys already get an earful from me and you probably don't need any more. i also may have included some older addresses that were previously removed. as usual, if you don't want to receive this email just drop a note with "Stop It!" as the subject to peter@thelcc.net ------------------------ more record reviews will be added to the website later this week or early next week. anything else needed on the website? www.thelcc.net ------------------------- did i mention how incredible the Elvis Costello show was? band was top notch and E.C. seems to be at the peak of his ablility to both entertain and wring the pure emotion out of his songs. went to Bright Eyes afterwards which was decent but seemed unfocused after the Costello show. lots of potential though. i'll check back in 25 years. ------------------------ still need a piano player. must be able to play shows on Fridays as well as Saturdays (but no Sunday shows as longs as Curb Your Enthusiasm is on). i gotta go, peter www.thelcc.net
