LCC: guess who's back, guess who's back, guess who's back, guess who's back... ...ya see, it's an Eminem reference (even though i lost all respect for him when he fucked with Triumph). ahem...i know that some of you probably didn't expect to hear from ol' LCC again but after a long winter (and spring and summer) of discontent we are returning once again to brighten up your otherwise pathetic lives ( or more likely be a blight on your otherwise pleasant and fulfilling lives). i know that the format that i have established in these emails is to say a bunch of stupid shit that doesn't make much sense and then hype whatever shows we have coming up. this time i am gonna try to clue you in somewhat on what has been happening with the band as well as saying dumb stuff and hyping our upcoming shows.. when we last left you (November 1, 2001) LCC was gonna take some time off to record a new album before we played lived again...well that's not exactly what happened. here we are close to one year later LCC has not played a single gig, nor have we started recording a new album. maybe axl can take this kind of time off and still expect folks to care...but LCC? well if any of you who signed up for this list over the past few years still give a shit about LCC i'll consider myself very lucky. here what's been going on since then. i had a lot of time to think during our time off and i realized that LCC has been around for about five years now (believe it or not) and during that time we've often been a "good" band but we never seemed to quite live up to my expectations. i kinda decided that i don't have time to be in a "good" band. so then the question became does the band end or do i try to make LCC a "great" band. in some ways that question is in the middle of being answered but for the time being i've decided to give it a shot. any of you who actually give a shit about rock 'n roll know that your favorite bands are great because of the chemistry that exists between the band members. and the rotating cast of characters that LCC has been never really had the chance to develop that chemistry. so step one on the path to greatness has been to stable-ize the lineup with some players that have some personal and musical chemistry. to that end i announce the addition of Kevin Bybee on drums. Kevin has a beard but at this point i'm willing to let some things slide. he's also happens to be a great drummer. Mark Hughes from Baboon who played with LCC for about 8 months last year is also taking a more active role in the band. returning at left tackle will be last years leading rusher James Henderson. James has been the only one (besides myself) involved in the live band since the beginning and also the only person (once again besides me) to be involved in the recording of both LCC records. so far, the potential for the kind of chemistry i have hoped for appears to be good. we still have some work to do but for the first time since LCC began i feel like i am starting to lose myself in the music. and that's where the magic happens. as far as the next records goes...well by the time the band seemed stable (which was pretty much the end of the summer) we decided that the record would be better if we played the new stuff at shows for a while. the first LCC records were good but they didn't capture the magic of band playing together in a room (mostly because they were the product of 2 guys sitting in front of a computer). all the songs on the first 2 records ended up getting better after we played them live for a while. this time the songs will get better before we record them (i hope). anyways for all intents and purposes it's like the band is starting over. and for as long as it seems like it might be great we'll keep doing it. if by the end of the year we are still going we'll begin recording the next album. so far this email has leaned a bit too far to the overly earnest side for my tastes. i promise that the next email will once again be unintelligible. other stray bit of LCC info: despite having a more solid foundation in the band we are still looking for that elusive maraca-shaking, occasional guitar-strumming, keyboard/organ/piano-playing kind of guy or gal. the redesigned lcc website should be up and running hopefully by monday evening. i'm sick of flash animations, splash pages, all of the "you must download the latest version of shitscape to view this site" messages and anything anything else that gets in the way of the information that i'm trying to find. so it promises to be the most technically illiterate website you've ever seen. anyways check it out at www.thelcc.net UPCOMING SHOWS * all dates are opening Monday September 23rd at the Gypsy Tea Room in Dallas w/ Interpol Thursday October 3rd at the Mercury Lounge in Austin w/ Centromatic Friday October 4th at Muddy Waters in Dallas w/ Pleasant Grove more shows to come soon. blather, peter
