From: Peter Schmidt Date: Thu Jul 10, 2003 10:53:47 PM US/Central To: lcc_news@thelcc.net Subject: [lcc_news] i am that boy ahhh, finally some rest. this sunday will be the last of my weekly Barley House gigs and not a moment too soon. don't get me wrong, the shows have been great and i've been having gobs of fun...lots o people have been turning up (and not all of them so ugly), and everyone seems to be liking it a lot, (an aside ­ i think i understand why people appear to have been so entertained by the shows: it's akin to watching a little retarded boy try to throw a football, it may not be pretty but you can't help but smile as he struggles to hurl that ball only to have it fall two feet behind him and he's too oblivious of his failure to be embarrassed. you're just glad he tried.) and god knows i can always use the extra cash, it's just that my mondays have been shot lately and i'm a man who loves his mondays. monday is the first day of the week (unless sunday is actually the first day of the week, but dammit, sunday feels like the end of the week so at the very least monday is the first day of MY week) and as the first day of my week it sets the tone for the rest of the week. and right now it's setting a pretty a pretty bad example. the monday after a sunday night show i am absolutely shattered, my body don't wanna do nothin at all (and that's just from being old, staying up late and...er, rocking the kids - no drinking involved). so on monday my body tells me "take it easy, you deserve it" thereby setting the tone for the rest of the week. but i have lots to do, rehearsing,writing, cleaning, paying bills, pilates, burning me up some homemade meals, devising email pyramid schemes, not to mention living up to the terms of my work release program and i can't take it easy so my brain starts yelling at my body "hey fuckface! get off your ass and get ta workin'!" and then i realize that this story is going nowhere so i give up. deep breath. the fact of the matter is that my final Barley House show (at least for a while) is this sunday. the mighty Shibboleth will open up. and remember that canadian band that i told ya was gonna go on first last sunday? well, richard said that he made a mistake and that they are actually this week not last week. he told me their name but i forgot and frankly i don't care if you come in time to see them or not. i suppose it would be nice of me to tell you that they're great and that you really should check them out, but i don't know anything about them and i've never lied to you before, have i? i have no choice but to consider them interlopers and treat them as such.
